Obituary

Abioseh Freeman was born on October 8, 1963 in Moyamba, Sierra Leone to Hannah Seidia Emelia (nee Zorokong) and Thomas Sesaygben Freeman. She was affectionately known as “Hannah”, “Oseh” or “Abby” and peacefully passed away with family by her side in Towson, Maryland on Monday, May 4, 2026.

She was one of 8 siblings and was heavily influenced by her grandmother, Elizabeth “Betty” (nee Rogers) Zorokong and her grandfather, Chief Kaikazoko Zorokong. He was a chief in a small village called Messimah which is a part of the Pujehun district. As a child she was know to be quiet and studious and attended St. Joseph Convent Catholic School. She came from a mixed religious background of Christianity and Muslim. As a child, she would accompany her grandmother to the Mosque and her mother at the local markets as she sold food by the market side.

Abioseh immigrated to the United States and settles in Lowell, Massachusetts in the late 1980’s. She initially began working in a Nursing Home in Lowell while taking her GED courses. She started working at St. Luke’s Hospital, Milwaukee, Wisconsin in the early 1990s. She continued her education at MATC in 1999 and graduated with her associate’s degree in nursing in the Spring of 2008. She had a concentration in Renal failure and the healthcare pathway and was recognized during her higher education as being high achieving in her clinical labs and graduated with a 3.5 GPA.

In between jobs she was considered a “jack-of-all-trades”, she braided hair for many clients and specialized in intricate African hair braiding. She was an amazing chef specializing in American and West African cuisines (a pasta and bread lover). Her favorite desserts included carrot cake, almond joys, yellow cake, strawberry shortcake, and akara. She was very crafty and enjoyed sewing, arts and crafts in relation to helping her children with dioramas and school projects. She was known to be very calm and resilient and loved the Bachelor and Bachelorette TV shows. She also had a great sense of humor, often finding humor in unfortunate situations. She was incredibly caring and known to be a mother figure to her nieces and nephews and children's friends. Anyone who encountered her home was offered food and the hospitality of a family member. After her marriage ended in divorce, her in laws had nothing but gratitude and appreciation for her support towards continuing to foster a relationship as a family (including taking them to run errands and still creating a blended family).

She is survived by her children, Kafoh Kamanda, Josephus Kamanda and Hanette Kamanda; her grandchildren, Kafoh Kamanda, Jr., Andreyis Kamanda, Zoe Kamanda; her sisters, Jeanette Freeman, Julliette Freeman, Mildred Freeman, Martha Freeman, Aina Freeman and Elizabeth Freeman; her cousins (referred to as Brothers), Mustapha Kpukumu, and Sylvester Tucker; her nephews and nieces, Joseph Medo, Katherine Yambo Kabba, Hawanette Libbie, Abdul Alahji Kabba,, Patrick Hindolo Komeh, Juliana Boston-Clark, Abdulatu Kamara, Sheku Marrah, Hannah Kamara, and Elizabeth Kamara.
