Anne Spurr
Braig
d. Jun 2, 2023
Anne Spurr Braig, of Reisterstown, Maryland, passed away on June 2, 2023, at the age of 61. She was the beloved wife of Stephan Braig and devoted mother of Derek, Alison, and Julia. Aunt, sister, daughter and friend - her passing will be felt by many.
She was born in New York City and raised in Newtown, PA. She attended Buckingham Friends School, Suffield Academy, and Hartwick College where she was an accomplished athlete in both field hockey and lacrosse.
She grew up on acres of land with dogs, cats, horses and donkeys, which fostered her passion for all animals. She also became an accomplished equestrian, winning many championships with her beloved horse Cody.
After graduating college in 1984, she moved to Boulder, Colorado where she spent several years working and exploring the surrounding areas. She developed a love for running and spending time outdoors.
In the late 80's, she moved back to the East Coast to begin her career in customer service management with a pay roll service company in Boston. Soon thereafter, she met Stephan, which was the beginning of a loving relationship. They enjoyed the outdoors, skiing, music, and traveling together. They got married in 1991 and were blessed with three wonderful children, Derek, Alison and Julia.
Anne left the workforce and devoted her life to raising her children and caring for her family.
She was the most selfless and loving mother and wife. She actively volunteered in the local community, coaching soccer, serving on the school board and helping anybody who was in need. Anne was instrumental in starting the girl's lacrosse program in North Reading, Massachusetts. She developed a passion for helping girls excel in the sport while also providing them with confidence and self-worth.
Anne and her family moved to the Baltimore area in 2007. Derek, Alison, and Julia attended St. Paul's School where they were all multisport athletes continuing their mother's legacy.
She continued her volunteer service working part time for the Consumer Protection Division at the State Attorney General's office. For over a decade Anne spent many of her spring days traveling the country in support of her children's collegiate lacrosse career. She was their biggest fan and would overcome any obstacle to be there in the stands. In addition, she also coached for the Skywalkers lacrosse program. She had a gift and a passion for coaching young girls, she gave them confidence and strength to grow as athletes and young women.
Anne was initially diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008. She courageously fought for 15 years with everything she had and never let the illness define her. She selflessly continued to be there for her family and anybody needing help or support.
She found peace in nature and being outside. She spent every morning at one of her favorite hiking spots accompanied by her best friends and their dogs.
Anne lit up any room she walked into and will be remembered for her graceful and empathetic care for people and animals. She stood up for the just causes that she so strongly believed in. Her profound love for her family and friends will never be forgotten.
A memorial service dedicated to Anne's life will be held Friday, June 9th beginning at 2 pm at St. Paul's School Chapel in Brooklandville, MD.
