Obituary

Barbara Ann Makar passed away on Monday, July 4, 2022 after a long illness. Barb was 66 years old. Barb was born on June 15, 1956 to Paul W. Hart, Sr., C.P.A. and Jacqueline E. Hart (nee Hieber), homemaker.

She graduated from Notre Dame Preparatory School in 1974 and University of Maryland at College Park in 1978. Barb earned a Master's Degree in counseling from Loyola and a second Master's from Catholic University in psychology.

When her children were young, Barb operated a successful day care business from her home in Elkridge, MD. She was well loved by all the children in her care. Once both of her own children became school-age, Barbara began a career as a school counselor, eventually working for Anne Arundel County school system for the past 20 years of her life.

Barb is survived by her husband Andy Makar, with whom she was happily married for 15 years. She is also survived by her two children from her first marriage to Steve Steinle. She was a devoted mother to Kyle Steinle and Meredith Ventura, cherished grandmother to Eliana Ventura, and delighted mother-in-law to Jen Steinle. Barb is also survived by her four siblings Paul W. Hart, Jr. of Columbia, MD, Susan A. Struck and her husband Joseph of Manchester, MD, Richard T. Hart of New York, NY, and Mary Jo Febres of Parkville, MD; niece Natasha A. Febres and nephew Ruben E. Febres; and aunts Barbara Platania of Bel Air, MD and Beth Hart of Florida.

Barb loved the ocean and the beach, and in the past several years she and Andy spent much time at their second home in Bethany, DE. She and Andy had traveled to Italy, Spain, and Greece, and loved wine from around the world. She was known for her sharp wit, her fearlessness, her excellent cooking, her appreciation for classic clothes and she never met a shoe she didn't love.

Her passing creates a huge void for all whose lives she touched.
