Benjamin H. Vester, Jr. passed away on Veteran's Day, November 11, 2024 at the age of 98.

He was born in Nashville, NC in 1926 and later moved to Norfolk, Va. After graduating from high school in 1944, he went into the Army Air Corps. He was in the Army's Airplane Mechanic School in Alabama when the war ended.

After leaving the military, he entered VPI and majored in Electrical Engineering. Graduating in 1950, he went to work for Westinghouse. He first worked in Pittsburgh in the Special Products area focusing on an assignment in autopilots.

In 1951, he was transferred to Baltimore with the Air Arm Division and settled in Catonsville. His group worked in the BOMARC radar project and then the Gemini Space Program.

Mr. Vester eventually became manager of Electrical Design and later General Manager of Aerospace at Westinghouse.

Later, the family moved to Ellicott City. Ben retired in 1984 allowing him time to pursue his interests in sailing and HAM radio. He also enjoyed time in the summer at his property on the waterfront near Cambridge, Md.

Ben was married to Christine Capehart Vester, also of Norfolk, Va., for 71 years until her death in 2021. He is survived by three children: Dr. Susan Vester Prevas, (William) of Lutherville, Benjamin H. Vester III (Mary) of Columbia, and Bette Blair Wing of Ellicott City.  He is also survived by eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
