Obituary

Betty Jane Nelson, 89 years of age, passed away on November 22, 2022 after a brief illness. Jane was born on October 3, 1933 to Margaret Morris and George Scott in Bainbridge, Ohio. She lived in Bainbridge for 84 years, before moving to Maryland to be closer to her daughters. In high school, Jane excelled in both academics and track & field, even winning the County Championships in 1950. The following year she married William Nelson and went on to raise three lovely children. After her husband's illness, Jane began working outside of the home and worked in several fields including cleaning houses, factory work, at the Dairy Queen (which her children really loved!) and eventually became a secretary at an engineering firm in Chillicothe, Ohio.

Jane loved the Lord and attended the Bainbridge Church of Christ. She enjoyed singing in the choir in her earlier years, bible study and volunteering her time to help those in need. Jane was an avid walker - she could be found walking all over town, but always ended up at the Bainbridge Cemetery, which she said was her favorite place to go. She felt at peace there, surrounded by family and friends who had gone on before her. Jane also spent her time visiting with the folks at the nursing home, helping out with errands, driving them to doctor's appointments and sharing the word of God. She was kind, generous, loved to chat, always said "hello" with a smile and was eager to lend a hand.

Jane was predeceased by her husband William Nelson; her sisters Patty Cutter and Joan Scott Hall; her brothers George Scott and Morris Scott. She is survived by her sister, Mary Cole; her children Kyle Nelson, Laurie Nelson-Choice, and Kerby Nelson; her grandchildren Tiffany Gambrell and Chelsea Choice; her great-grandchildren Ayedren Crawford, Layla Gambrell and Christopher Gambrell Jr.

The family will receive friends at The Smith Moore Ebright Funeral Home in Bainbridge, Ohio on Saturday, December 3, 2022 from 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM with a Memorial Service beginning at 12:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, please remember Betty with memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Association.
