Obituary

Elizabeth M. "Betty" Schindler, age 82, of Lutherville, Maryland passed away peacefully on October 14, 2022, with her loving family by her side.  She was born to the late Bert and Anna Bush, on July 28, 1940, in Baltimore.

Betty graduated from St. Michael's Business School, was a 1958 graduate of The Catholic High School, then entered St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing at their original location in Baltimore.  In 1961, she finished second in her graduating class.

In June of 1962, she was wed her life's love Albert S. Schindler, and they would cherish and celebrate the next 60 years.  Early in the marriage, they began their family and relocated to Lutherville.  Betty is survived by three adored children:  John A. Schindler, of Dundalk; Stephen M. Schindler (his wife, Lynn), of Fullerton; and Leslie A. Hartman, of Perry Hall.  She has always held a special place in her heart for her niece, Karen R. Cullings, of Perry Hall, and nephew David M. Bush, M.D., of San Antonio.  Betty is also survived by five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her brother Albert J. Bush.

After her retirement from St. Joseph's, Betty enjoyed varied interests.  You could find her working in the garden and tending to her many house plants.  She could sew, knit, and would crochet "blankies" for the arrival of newborn grandchildren as she previously did for her children.  She looked forward to semi-annual trips to the ocean with the "Bethany Girls," seven nurses that had worked together in the same unit at St. Joseph's.  She enjoyed traveling and once put aside her dislike of flying to visit Hawaii. She loved get-togethers to play cards with her "Canasta Girls," a group of lifelong friends.  As the focus of those games could quickly change to talking, eating, and laughter, they could run late into the night.  For this reason, future get-togethers were scheduled as luncheons.  It was for naught, as those games too ran late into the night.  Betty served as our family historian and has spent countless hours over the years in researching and documenting our family tree.  This undertaking was very important and dear to her.  Unknown until now, in the front of one of the many binders of documents holding these records, she had penned a note which reads: "I am the preparer of this genealogy project...started in 1984...it is ongoing and will probably continue until I join all the ancestors herein...I am hopeful that my progeny will pick up the banner and continue this chronicle...unless they wish to be haunted by me."

The family will receive friends and relatives at Peaceful Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Center, P.A., 2325 York Road, Timonium, Maryland 21093 on Thursday, October 20, 2022, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.  The Celebration of her life will continue with a Memorial Service on Friday, October 21 beginning at 11 a.m. at the funeral home chapel. Interment will be private.
