Catherine Elizabeth
Nash
Aug 31, 1956 — Dec 14, 2024
Catherine Elizabeth Nash, the oldest daughter of the late John Quincy Nash and Catherine E. (nee Fowlkes) Nash, was born in Jacksonville, Maryland, on August 31, 1956. Catherine peacefully transitioned on December 14, 2024, at Gilchrist Hospice Care, surrounded by her loving family.
Catherine, affectionately known as "Cathy" or "Nashville," was educated in the Baltimore County Public School System. After graduating from Dulaney High School in May 1975, Cathy began her journey at the Ponderosa Steakhouse in Cockeysville before launching her career within the Baltimore County Public Schools. She moved from being a cafeteria cook to a supervisory position, enjoying every moment until her retirement. Cathy took immense pleasure in serving, sometimes bossing, and chatting with students.
A proud and dedicated member of the Esther Progressive Temple #586, Cathy served as assistant daughter ruler for several years. She played an active role in this charitable organization, helping raise funds through prayer breakfasts and other events. The proceeds supported various college scholarships, cotillion debutant balls for local girls, food for the needy, Thanksgiving baskets, back-to-school supplies, and even breakfast with Santa for the children.
Cathy loved playing cards and games like Pokeno with family and friends. She was also a fan of video gambling games such as Racetrax, Keno, and especially the Maryland Lottery. A true gambler at heart, she shared her late mother's passion for horse racing at "Old Hilltop," better known as Pimlico Racetrack, and never missed a chance to attend the Preakness.
Her greatest passion, however, was going to the casinos with family and taking bus trips to various gambling spots on the East Coast, including Atlantic City and Mohegan Sun. Cathy enjoyed participating in annual March Madness tournaments and football pools. In fact, she would bet on almost anything—even hermit crabs! This hilarious moment happened during a cousin's trip to Jamaica, leaving everyone doubled over with laughter. Cathy loved all sports, but her heart belonged to the Baltimore Ravens.
Cathy was full of life; she relished entertaining family and friends at home with her sister Jackie. Together, they hosted many celebrations, from birthdays and graduations to Triple Crown races and New Year's Eve parties. Cathy also attended cookouts, dances, cabarets, and various events. Whatever the occasion, Cathy was always ready to celebrate. A music lover, she could often be found at home blasting her favorite tunes, singing along to all genres, especially "ole school" R&B. Sam Cooke, Luther Ingram, and James Brown were among her favorites. Cathy adored her soap operas and television shows, and you better not disturb her while she was watching! She also loved pop culture, movies, and late-night chats with family, eagerly sharing the latest news of the day. Her late Aunt Edna and close cousins affectionately called her "Breakin News" because she was always the first to share the latest family, friends, celebrity, or world news.
An old soul, Cathy brought so much love, happiness, and joy to everyone in her presence. She forged her own path in life, with a wild and crazy side that kept family and friends entertained with her hilarious antics and stories! Cathy wasn't shy about voicing her opinions or dispensing medical advice to anyone who would listen. Generous to a fault, like her parents before her, she opened her home and her heart to anyone in need. Cathy simply adored, spoiled, and doted on all the children in the family. Her spirits lifted whenever they dropped by to visit. "Cathy loved the kids!" There's no doubt about it—family and friends will deeply miss this beautiful treasure, with her warm smile, distinct voice, and contagious laughter.
Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, John (Jay) and Catherine Nash; her brother Anthony (Tony); and her sister Constance (Connie). Cherished memories will live on in the hearts and minds of her siblings John, Jacqueline (Jackie), and Robert (Robbie) Nash; sister-in-law Michele; aunt Agnes Fowlkes; nieces Tricia, Evelyn (Evie), Ashley, Whitney, Amber, Makalya, Kayla, Tristen, Jada, Cailee, Peyton, Kariss, Kenzie, Raina, and Raven; nephews Robert (R.T.), Brandon, Phillip, Jay, Aaron, Conner, Isaiah, Tyler, Cameron (Cam), Brycen, Kamden, and Ramier; nephew-in-law Jerry; nieces-in-law Amanda and Allison; a devoted friend John; and a large host of cousins, relatives, and friends.
