Christine Marie
Doppes
d. Jun 7, 2025
Christine "Chris" Marie Doppes, age 66, died on June 7, 2025 in Mt. Airy, MD. Born January 10, 1959 in Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Andrew Petro and Joan Marie (nee Tamecki) Petro. She is survived by her son, Andrew Doppes and his wife Nataliya Naydorf, and her daughter Julia Hall and her husband Stephen Hall. She was a wonderful and loving grandma to her 4 grandchildren. She also leaves behind two younger brothers, Thomas Petro and Joseph Petro as well as a niece and nephews. She is preceded in death by her niece, Serena Petro.
Chris spent her youth and most of her adult years in Mechanicsburg, PA. She attended St. Joseph Catholic School and graduated from Cumberland Valley High School where she started many lifelong friendships. Chris worked primarily as a waitress in her younger years which meshed well with her bubbly and extroverted personality. Chris decided to return to school when her children were older to pursue a nursing career. Her compassion and empathy for others were a driving force in this career change, and she made a positive impact on all the nursing home residents she cared for over the years.
Chris suffered a major stroke at 50 that led her to a later diagnosis of CADASIL. She battled through rehab several times and remained ever positive asking for little and smiling often through each setback. Chris moved to Maryland in 2014 putting down new roots with Julia, Julia's husband, Steve, and eventually her two grandchildren. She remained close to her growing family as Andy married his wife Nataliya and welcomed two children of his own along the way. Julia and Steve often joked that Chris managed to build more friendships in the few years she lived with them than they themselves had over all their years living in Maryland. She never failed to make us smile when she would return home with a story of a new friend she just met. She eventually transitioned to nursing care, all the while, never losing faith in the Lord and attending mass and bible studies whenever possible.
Chris was well loved and a blessing to many. We will miss her beautiful smile and her contagious laugh. Although she is missed, she has been called home. May she rest in peace.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 7321 Burkittsville Rd, Middletown, MD. All are welcome to attend a luncheon at the church directly after the service.
