Daniel Kevin
Cooper
d. Apr 21, 2024
Daniel Kevin (Danny) Cooper, age 60, dual citizen of the USA and Ireland, passed away suddenly in the very early hour of April 21, 2024. He is survived by his beloved children, Adam B. Cooper and Anna R. Cooper of New York, NY, and loving siblings Beverly Daniels(Larry), Jim Cooper(Cathy), Michael and Robin Cooper, Annmarie Albert(Tim), Billy Cooper(Donna), Joan North(Gary), Christopher Cooper(Diane) and Steven Dooley(Lisa) – as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. His parents, James L. Cooper, Jr. and Anna M. Cooper predeceased him.
Danny loved Baltimore, New York, Ireland, fresh air, sunshine, walking for miles, family and friends. His passion and incredible talent was Irish music and he was an amazing fiddler in multiple music sessions weekly at home in NYC, in Baltimore, and "across the pond" in Ireland. Where Danny went, his fiddle went! Just days before he fell ill, he had played in the annual Baltimore Irish Tradfest weekend, and just prior to that he had traveled to Ireland to celebrate family milestone birthdays. He will be deeply missed in the Irish music community, our family in Ireland, and many friends worldwide. Danny also loved to walk and run, having completed several marathons and had a devoted group with whom he walked on a regular basis. For his 60th birthday, he organized and completed a 60-mile walk through New York City over four days followed by dinner each day, accompanied by many friends and family joining him for as much or as little as they chose. He also was an active member of St. Francis Xavier Church in Manhattan, where he participated regularly in music ministry.
Danny served in the Peace Corps in Lesotho, Africa in 1989 and 1990, where he met his former wife and mother of his children, Charlanne Burke. Upon their return from Peace Corps, he earned his PhD in sociology from Columbia University, having been granted a Fullbright Scholarship to conduct his dissertation research in Botswana from 1995-1997. He has maintained relationships worldwide with the many people he met during the Peace Corps service and Fullbright research. He returned to NYC where he continued to live since, raising his children and making lasting friendships. He was an avid traveler and voracious reader and he ensured that his children saw the world from very young ages.
A Visitation will be held at Peaceful Alternatives Funeral & Cremation Center, 2325 York Road, Timonium, MD, 21093, on Friday, May 3, 2024 from 3PM to 5PM and 7PM to 9PM and also on Saturday, May 4, 2024 from 10AM to 11AM, at which time a Funeral Service will begin at 11AM.
