In Loving Memory of Dan Cuddy

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dan Cuddy, a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished grandfather, who left this world peacefully on August 16, 2025, at the age of 80.

Born in Baltimore in 1944, Dan lived a life defined by unwavering kindness and a passion for creating poetry. For over 56 years, he was the beloved husband of Kathy. Together, they built a home filled with happiness, laughter and enduring love.

As a father to Erin and Patrick, he was endlessly supportive. To his grandchildren, he was simply "Pop Pop"—a title he wore with pride and joy. Whether sharing stories, sneaking extra cookies, or cheering from the sidelines, his presence was a constant source of comfort and delight. He had a gift for making each grandchild feel uniquely seen and deeply loved.

Dan Cuddy was an American poet and literary editor based in the Baltimore area. He served as an editor for the Loch Raven Review and had been a contributing editor for both the Maryland Poetry Review and Lite: Baltimore's Literary Newspaper. Over the years his poems have appeared in numerous small magazines as well as online journals. His first full-length collection, Handprint on the Window, was published in 2003.

His core themes—memory and history, urban places, nature's cycles and social critique—are very much in sync with what many of today's poets are exploring, but his particular blend of personal recollection and Baltimore's textures sets him apart.

Dan will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his compassion for his fellow man and his love for the written word. He never sought the spotlight except when it came to his poetry- he loved to read his poems to anyone who would stop and listen- and loved his poetry reading groups.  He was gratified when publications selected his poems and was a mentor to many younger writers.

He is survived by his wife Kathy, his children Erin Root (James) and Patrick Cuddy (June), his grandchildren Brendan, Killian and Ava Cuddy and Kyle and Taylor Root, his brother Dale and a wide circle of extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.  He was predeceased by his parents and brother John Cuddy.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Peaceful Alternatives Funeral & Cremation Center on Saturday, September 13, 2025 from 11AM to 12:30PM with a Time of Sharing starting at 11:30AM. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.peacefulalternatives.com
