It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Daniel Brice McCann, age 92, of Lutherville, who peacefully passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at Sinai Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Throughout his life, Daniel touched countless lives with his wisdom, humor, and unwavering spirit rooted in faith, love, and devotion to his country. He will be remembered for his kindness, strength of character, and the lasting impact he made on all who knew him.
Born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania to John H. and Hazel V. McCann, Daniel was the beloved husband of the late Ella Mary “Joy” McCann (née Baughman), with whom he shared 65 years of marriage.
He is survived by his loving children, Kevin and Kory McCann of Baltimore, and Kelli McCann Gray (Geoff), of Bethesda. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Madeleine, Sara, and Reed Gray of Bethesda; Alexia McCann of Tucson, AZ; and Carter Lee McCann of Atlanta, GA, all of whom were truly the lights of his life.
Dan is also survived by his brother, Lynn McCann (Bonnie) of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
A proud United States Army Veteran, Dan was drafted at the age of 18 and served his country for four years at several Army bases, including Aberdeen Proving Ground in Aberdeen, Maryland. It was there that he had a chance meeting with Joy, who was visiting from Texas — a moment that would shape the course of his life.
Opting for civilian life at the conclusion of his tour rather than pursuing Warrant Officer Flight Training, Dan entered into a business partnership in Baltimore and he and Joy relocated from Ft. Riley, Kansas and began building a new life centered on family, faith, enduring friendships, and community. He later joined General Motors Corporation and went on to serve the company for more than 30 years. Although Baltimore became home, he never stopped missing the mountains, valleys, rivers and rolling hills of western Pennsylvania.
Those who knew Dan best would say his service never truly ended. He carried the same discipline, dedication, and deep sense of duty into every aspect of his life — as a husband, father, grandfather, friend, church member, and volunteer in his community.
Dan joined Boumi Shriners in 1971. Deeply devoted to helping children in need, he played an active role in supporting Shriners Hospitals for Children for more than 50 years. He was a member of the 100 Club, Boosters Club, Ambassadors Club, and Scimitar Club as well as a member of the Order of the Jesters Court 222.
