Obituary

David "Dave" Ray Nanney passed away at the Stella Maris Hospice Facility in Timonium, Maryland on Monday, September 26, 2022, just one day after his 84th birthday.

He was born on September 25, 1938 in Marietta, Mississippi to the late Cleveland Nanney and Evelyn Nanney (nee Pate).  He has two surviving brothers, Jack Nanney and Dexter Nanney, who both reside in Mississippi.  He attended Townley High School, in Townley, Alabama, graduating in 1956.  He then joined the Army and by chance, came to Baltimore, where he met his future beloved wife of 63 years, Rebecca "Becky" Nanney (nee Heavel), who passed away on August 23, 2022.  Dave was honorably discharged from the Army in 1959 and went on to obtain a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from the University of Baltimore in 1971.

He was the devoted father of Tamara Ann Cyzyk (Mark) and David Alan Nanney † (Ann).  He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Shawn Michael Nanney, Jessica Lee Nanney, and Emily Ann Simmons, and two great-granddaughters, Hailey Michelle Nanney and Ashley Marie Nanney.

Dave worked as an accountant and worked in insurance for his entire career, until 1996, when he took disability retirement due to his blindness from Retinitis Pigmentosa.  As everyone who knew Dave was well aware, his blindness never slowed him down.  Along with the love Dave had for his family, he was a lover of music and playing the banjo gave him great joy.  He and his wife Becky, along with the seeing eye dogs Dave had, loved to travel in their Winnebago, forging lifelong friendships across the country and Canada.  Dave and Becky were also instrumental in their fundraising and the incredible work they did for the Foundation Fighting Blindness.

There will be an interment and celebration of life service for both Dave and Becky Nanney on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at Meadowridge Memorial Park in Elkridge, Maryland.

In lieu of flowers, please remember Dave, along with Becky, with memorial contributions to the Foundation Fighting Blindness https://www.fightingblindess,org/ or to The Seeing Eye, https://www.seeingeye.org/
