David Lee Thomas was born in Martinsville, Virginia, on May 19, 1955 at 3:18 PM to the late William and Viola Thomas as the oldest of three children.

He was admitted to Rosewood in 1967 when the family was unable to care for his needs. In 1976, David was transferred from Rosewood to the Henryton Center until 1982, when he was moved to S.S.D., Inc. Approximately 15 years later, David Thomas moved to L.I.F.E., Inc. on September 18, 1997.

David attended Chimes' Liberty West Program where he participated in various contracted work. He was known to consistently have a briefcase that would contain his book to write in and pen to write with. David was loved by his housemates and staff; he enjoyed feeling important and involved. On July 23, 2017, David moved to L.I.F.E.'s Adult Medical Day Program, where he was engaged in activities throughout the day.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his stepmother, Leeroa Thomas; two sisters, Elenor Thomas of Martinsville, Virginia and Gloria L. Thomas; one brother, Nickolas Thomas of Baltimore, Maryland; one niece, Shaleta Smith (Aaron); one nephew, Jordan Thomas of Martinsville, Virginia; one grandniece, Symphany; one grandnephew, Christopher Talley of Martinsville, Virginia; two aunts, Helen Wright of Rocky Mount, Virginia and Elsie Cook of Martinsville, Virginia; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Family and friends are invited to gather at Peaceful Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Center, P.A., 2325 York Road, Timonium, Maryland 21093 on Friday, January 12 from 10-10:30 AM with a funeral service officiated by Rev. Dr. Rick Cash to begin at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
