Debra Lee
Ruby
d. Nov 14, 2024
It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Debra Lee Ruby, who left us on November 14, 2024, at the age of 65 after a tough battle with cancer. "Debbie", born on May 3, 1959, in Baltimore City, MD, was a woman whose love, generosity, and laughter filled every room she entered. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and joy that will forever resonate in the hearts of all who knew her. She was the beloved mother of Jennifer L. Schmalzer and the late David P. Schmalzer, Jr.; loving daughter of the late Joan E. (nee Anderson) and John C. Ruby, Jr.; dear sister of John C. Ruby, III and his wife Irene. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and her fur baby, Reese Ruby.
As a devoted mother, Debbie gave so much of herself to provide for her children. There was nothing she wouldn't do for them, and her unwavering support, bright spirit, and selflessness will forever be etched in our memories.
Debbie was also a cherished sister, cousin, and friend. She held these relationships close, creating lasting bonds and bringing people together with her one-of-a-kind attitude and sense of humor. Whether it was a family gathering, a holiday dinner, or just a quiet moment of conversation, she had a way of making an impact on everyone around her.
One of Debbie's greatest joys was her love for her dog, Reese, who first belonged to her late son. They were inseparable, and Reese brought her much comfort and companionship, especially in her later years. They were very fond of walking up and down the boardwalk together.
Debbie had a special connection to the ocean, especially Ocean City, MD. She cherished walking the boards, soaking in the beach sun, and enjoying the salty air—those moments brought her peace and joy. Ocean City was a place where she found both adventure and serenity, and it was there that she made some of her happiest memories.
Debbie had a long and fulfilling career in the cosmetic manufacturing industry, working for over 30 years at Procter & Gamble. She took great pride in her work, and her dedication and expertise were well-respected by her colleagues. Even after retiring, she wasn't ready to slow down. Her love for work and interacting with others led her to pursue new opportunities at several restaurants, including Hightopps, Brass Balls, and Shotti's Point Luna's. She enjoyed being part of the community and was well-loved by both her coworkers and customers, always offering a smile and a good laugh.
While we are heartbroken by her passing, we take comfort in knowing that she lived a full, meaningful life and now is out of pain and is reunited with her late son and parents. Her love for her family, her friends, her work, and her community will remain with us forever. We are grateful for the time we had with her and will carry her memory in our hearts always.
