Obituary

Donald Ruhl Wood, age 64, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 21, 2025. A devoted husband, loving brother and loyal friend, Donald lived a life filled with hard work, laughter and generosity.

Born with a natural talent for machinery and a tireless work ethic, Donald spent 45 years as a heavy equipment operator with Gray and Sons. He took immense pride in his work and gained the respect and friendship of many throughout his long career.

Donald had a deep passion for drag racing and was a proud member of NHRA and MANDRA. One of his greatest joys was racing his prized 1957 Chevy Bel Air, lovingly named "Magic Carpet Ride", which he co-owned with his brother Wayne. Together they shared countless unforgettable moments at the track.

Donald also loved riding his 2013 Harley Davidson with his friends, enjoying the freedom of the open road.

When he wasn't working or racing, Donald found peace at Myrtle Beach, relaxing on the sand with a cold beer in hand and watching the world go by. At home, he enjoyed mowing his lawn – and often his neighbor's lawns – with his fleet of John Deere tractors. For Donald, cutting grass wasn't a chore; it was a way to unwind.

He loved hosting cookouts for family and friends and looked forward to fall fire pit gatherings. Wednesdays were special too – whether visiting food trucks in the warmer months or trying different restaurants with loved ones during the winter.

Donald had a special place in his heart for animals and always kept treats ready for every furry visitor. Most of all, he adored Boo, the family cat who brought him great comfort and joy.

Donald is survived by his loving wife, Valeree (nee Wagner) Wood and his brother, Robert "Wayne" Wood. He will be remembered for his warm smile, his giving spirit and his unwavering desire to help anyone in need. Donald's greatest gift was his kind and generous heart and his memory will live on in the many lives he touched.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for all the love, support, prayers and acts of kindness during this difficult time.
