Obituary

Doris Mary Bailey (nee Landefeld), age 92, died August 11, 2025, surrounded by family. Doris was born July 21, 1933 in Baltimore, Maryland. She attended St. Rita's Elementary School, where she met our father. She was the spelling champion, and our father always described her as "the smartest kid in the class". She went on to work at Epsteins to help pay for her schooling at Seton High School, where she became Senior Class President. Her group of high school friends described themselves as the Terrible Tenors, and called each other by their names spelled backwards (Our mom being called "Sirod"). This group became lifelong friends, gathering often to reminisce and create new memories. Our father stopped to see our mother at her house on the way to his senior prom, which he attended with another girl. Like all who knew her, our father found in our mother a gorgeous woman with a big smile, beautiful cheekbones, and a wonderful sense of humor.

After graduation, she went on to work at the Telephone Company as a clerk.

Our parents dated, married, and raised seven children.

Family was everything to our Mom, from her two sisters Marie and Patsy and brother Fred to her seven children, 13 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Our Mom created the most loving of homes. Every room was immaculate despite the mess and mayhem of raising seven children, and she was a wonderful cook. Everyone loved her German-style potato salad, crab soup, blueberry cake, and peach cake.

She hosted Christmas for both sides of the family in our tiny three bedroom/one bathroom semidetached house in Overlea, and all were welcome to join in the merriment. She wore Christmas sweatshirts to church and loved decorating her Christmas tree with red balls and Hallmark ornaments.

She was a great duck pin bowler - Tuesdays were "her night" to bowl and be with her friends. She also relished the quiet moments when she could cross-stitch or watch her favorite TV show, "Cheers". She loved the beach and walking along the shore collecting shells. She packed us up most summer days to go to the Stansbury Beach Club. As her children married and started their own families, she lovingly rocked her grandchildren in our wooden rocking chair, and serenaded them with goofy lyrics from 1950's songs.

Doris Bailey was loyal, funny, loving and handled every situation with grace and dignity. From humble beginnings, she made a wonderful life for herself and all who loved her.

She is survived by her children Jeffrey Bailey and spouse Karen, Mark Bailey and spouse Julia and his late wife Marykay Bailey (nee Loskot), Kathleen Bosse and spouse Daniel, Kevin Bailey and spouse Kathryn, Paula Beres and spouse Michael, Brian Bailey and spouse William Rydzynski, Eileen Hall and spouse Richmond, 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name can be made to the Maryland Special Olympics .
