Obituary

Edward Michael Ranier age 82 passed away on August 8, 2026. Ed was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on October 26, 1943.

An expert with over 57 years of experience in the fields of Administrative law, Regulatory law, OSHA/MOSH, Funeral and Crematory law, Worker’s Compensation, Labor law, Products Liability and General law, Ed was admitted to practice in Maryland, New York, Washington D.C. and the Supreme Court of the United States. He was also a federal and state lobbyist.

Ed was a Partner with the law firm of Lord & Whip, a Maryland Assistant Attorney General, regulatory & OSHA attorney for Bethlehem Steel and a Baltimore City State’s Attorney. He has been a member of the Maryland Chamber of Commerce, Industrial Hygiene Association, Maryland Occupational Safety and Health Advisory Board, a member of the Attorney Grievance Commission and Past President and legal counsel to the Maryland Law Enforcement Organization.

For the last 30 years, he was an OSHA and Funeral Law lecturer on the national stage. Some of his published legal works include the “Employer’s Guide to Occupational Safety and Health” and the Maryland Amusement Safety Act.

Edward loved art, the music of George Gershwin and Cole Porter, travel, good food, great company, a fine cigar, and above all else reading and learning. He had a large car collection and was active in the automobile community, as a member of several car clubs. He loved Lionel trains and was a member of the Train Collectors Association as well.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rosemary Motsay, his son Christopher, his daughter-in-law, Talia, grandson Fox and numerous in-laws.


The family is inviting all to help them celebrate his life at Peaceful Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Center, P.A., located at 2325 York Road in Timonium on Thursday August 13, 2026 from 2-7 PM. A special ceremony will begin at 6 PM where we invite all to express a funny story or fond memory of Ed.
