Obituary

Elaine Friedman, 85, passed away on November 21, 2025. She was born in Cohoes, New York, and lived a life filled with love, creativity, and adventure.

Elaine was the devoted wife of the late Michael Friedman, who predeceased her in March 2023. Married for 63 years, they were true partners—first mates on their sailboat and in life—sharing countless adventures together. Their travels took them around the world, including Jamaica, Bermuda, Hawaii, Sweden, France, Italy, Greece, Australia, and New Zealand.

She was the loving mother of Laura Klein (Michael Klein), Lisa Friedman (Larry Fletcher), Lynn Trouba (John Trouba), and Micky Friedman-Sharkey (John Sharkey). She was the proud grandmother of Caitlyn Klein, Kyle Hendry, Taylor Friedman, Charlie Trouba, and Peter Trouba, and a delighted great-grandmother to Finn, Isla, and Otto.

Elaine dedicated many years to raising her family, and in her 40s returned to school, earning her bachelor's degree from Towson State University. She worked part-time for the Maryland Department of Aging, creating programs and activities for several senior centers in Baltimore County and coordinating volunteers. She also gave generously of her time, volunteering with Meals on Wheels, serving as a room mother, Girl Scout leader, and chaperone whenever needed.

Elaine had many passions: bridge, knitting, reading, gardening, crafting, golfing, bowling, and taking after-dinner walks with her family. A hobby artist and a reluctant skier, she brought creativity and humor to everything she did. She was kind, funny, inventive, a wonderful cook, and an exceptional storyteller.

Her happiest place was anywhere in the warm sun, especially while watching the sunset over the water. Elaine created a welcoming home that blended traditions old and new, ensuring holidays were filled with warmth, laughter, and a seat for anyone who needed one. She loved to sing "Happy Birthday," and delighted in leaving it on the answering machine, saying, "Don't answer the phone—I want to leave it!"

Elaine was a cherished friend and a steady, caring presence in the lives of all who knew her. She will be dearly missed and forever held in our hearts.
