Gary Lamont
Nixon
d. Oct 23, 2022
Gary Lamont Nixon was born December 20, 1946, in Baltimore, Maryland to Rosie and Nathaniel Nixon. He passed away peacefully on October 23, 2022, after having received so much love and comfort from his family.
At the age of 20 Gary started working for Chessie Systems now CSX Transportation and loyally remained with the company until he retired as engineer at the age of 62. Gary had a passion for his career and took a great deal of pride in the service and support he provided while working on the railroad. Gary loved to travel, and the railroad was one of the ways he enjoyed meeting new people and visiting new places.
On June 29, 1970, he married Linda Deaver in Baltimore, Maryland and they settled down in Turner's Station in Dundalk, MD. There they welcomed and raised their four children Sean Carlos, Marni Renee, Phylicia Denise, and Annette Celeste. Gary continued his work on the railroad throughout his marriage and the family would affectionately wait to hear that familiar train whistle over the water and they would know he was home.
Gary was an outgoing person and easy to talk to and would go out of his way for those he loved. People always seemed to just gravitate to him no matter if he was on the basketball court or in the bank. Gary had a passion for sports and loved to play basketball, golf, tennis, pool, and cards. He was a protector and provider for his family and was especially loved by his children and grandchildren who affectionately called him Pop Pop. He enjoyed a special relationship with his grandson Korey, great-grandson Harrison and great-granddaughter Londyn.
Gary is survived by his former and only wife, Linda Nixon Plato; devoted father of Sean Nixon, Marni Nixon, Phylicia Nixon Pearsall & her husband Michael and Annette Nixon; cherished grandfather of Hope, Jasmine, Bobby, Elijah, Kiyin, Michaela, Korey, and Noah; great-grandfather of Brooklyn, Harrison, Olivia and Londyn; dear brother of Jennifer Pack, Lynnette Thomas, Ronald Nixon, Andrea Davis, Carlton Nixon and the late Robert N. Hawkins, Sr., Cheryl Waddell and Brenda Smith. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at 10:00 A.M. at Peaceful Alternatives Funeral & Cremation Center.
