Obituary

Gayle Elizabeth (nee Tyler) Johnson passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 26, 2022 after a prolonged illness. Gayle was born in Richmond, Virginia to the late Lois W. (nee Carter) Tyler and the late Robert Tyler.  Over time, she was the fur mother to cat babies, Misty, Jerry, Taz, Buster, and Blu, and dog babies Lily and Ginger. She was the beloved sister of Donna L. Tyler, Robert "Darryl" Tyler and his wife Kim, Kevin M. Tyler and his wife Brigetta, the late Michael A. Tyler, and Stephanie A. Tyler. She was the beloved aunt to JaMarri K. (nee Tyler) Sellers and Eric Sellers, Odori H. (nee Martin Tyler) Pendleton and Brandon Pendleton, Myxolydia "Myxie" P. Martin Tyler, Christopher Tyler and wife Kayla (nee Phillips) Tyler, Jennifer (nee Tyler) Durnin and Jack Durnin, Kevin Tyler, Jr., Brittany Tyler, Nicholas Tyler and Hannah (nee Lopez) Tyler, and beloved great aunt to Joshua Sellers, Aaron Sellers, Caleb Sellers, Abigail Sellers, Karis Pendleton, Josiah Pendleton, Kaylyn Tyler, Charliegh Tyler, Ellory Tyler, Kingston Tyler and Brooklyn Tyler. Gayle is survived by long standing, devoted friends, Cynthia Morgan Vega and Nancy Bourke, along with numerous other caring friends and acquaintances.

Prior to beginning her work career, Gayle served two years as a Marine at Quantico Marine Base in Virginia, achieving the rank of E3. She also attended St. Paul's College in Lawrenceville, Virginia, and transferred to Baltimore City Community College in Baltimore, Maryland where she completed her B.S degree in Criminology. Gayle worked for Baltimore County Government for 30 years and was a conscientious and dedicated employee, though most of her time was spent as a fire dispatcher for the 911 Dispatch Center.

Gayle was an avid home crafter, and her prized crochet blankets and cross-stitch artwork adorn the homes of family and friends to this day. Gayle loved traveling. Her favorite vacations were trips to Freeport, Bahamas to snorkel and sunbathe with her toes in the powdery white sand. Her family and friends will remember her as a fun and lively companion, who always had interesting suggestions to make any day an adventure. Although not an initial football fan, when the Ravens moved to Baltimore she quickly became an ardent supporter and never missed a televised game, often coaching the team, coaching staff, and officials from the comfort of the couch! She was happiest, though, when surrounded by her loved ones and pets and would make any stranger feel welcome in her home. She will be missed and loved forever by all who knew her.
