George "Butch"
Holsopple
d. Nov 28, 2025
George "Butch" L. Holsopple, Jr., 73, of Parkville, Maryland, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2025. In Boston, Massachusetts, in 1952, George L. Holsopple, Sr., declared to Mary Jane Sherman Holsopple that their firstborn would be nicknamed Butch no matter what! A bouncing baby boy was born on April 24th to the relief of many.
Butch was the beloved brother of Kathleen M. Frazier, Paul W. Holsopple, and Kevin P. Holsopple, and was preceded in death by his brother, David H. Holsopple. A close-knit family that even if they lived in different parts of the country, whenever they were together it was like no time had passed.
Butch was the loving husband of the late Rhonda L. Phillips Holsopple for thirty-five years. He was a proud father to Jade H. Smith, Amber C. Cetinkaya, and the late Robert J. Smith. He is also remembered as a cherished PapPap to his grandchildren, Brendon and Guinevere Cetinkaya. As Uncle Butch, he is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews.
Butch lived a life marked by hard work, loyalty, humor, and a deep love for his family. His work ethic began at 11, when he started working at Hochstedt's Florist, which became his lifelong profession until his retirement.
A former U.S Navy Operations Specialist aboard the USS Kilauea, Butch carried his sense of duty and discipline into all aspects of life. In 1977, Butch - nicknamed Speedo in the Navy - was stationed in California. He met 4-year-old Amber, who crashed the backyard cookout he was having with his closest naval friends. Amber's mother was next door with her almost year old twins, Robert and Jade. Speedo told Amber to get her mother, and it was then that he met the love of his life, Rhonda.
Butch was known for his skillful hands and creative mind. A gifted woodworker, craftsman, and passionate gearhead, he could build or fix almost anything, leaving behind countless projects that reflect his craftsmanship and care. His love of singing, music, and motorcycles wasn't just a pastime - it was a part of who he was, embodying his strong spirit, love of freedom, and living life as he wanted. Butch possessed a talent for telling jokes. He was an encyclopedia of jokes, with a sharp wit and a gift for delivery that made every joke fresh.
Butch will be cremated, and his ashes mingled with the ashes of Rhonda. Their final wish is to have their ashes spread at sea and in their garden.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The American Lung Association in Butch's name. The family invites all who loved him to share photos and cherished memories to celebrate his full and loving life. Butch's legacy of strength, humor, and love lives on. Many thanks and all love.
Online condolences may be made to the family at www.peacefulalternatives.com . The family has also included photos in Butch's album for all to view.
