Gladys Josephine Frances (nee Maruffi) Friedel age 80 of Perry Hall, Maryland passed away on Sunday, August 1, 2021, with her family by her side. Gladys was the beloved wife of the late Francis Paul Friedel Sr.; devoted mother of Francis Paul Friedel Jr. and his late wife Laurie, Kenneth Friedel and his wife Mary, Thomas Friedel and his wife Rebecca, Angela Arsenovic and her late husband Petar, and Gloria Dempsey and her husband Michael; loving grandmother of Connie and her husband Phil, Francis "Paul" III , Molly, Kenny, Ben, Gabriel, Mark, and Cecilia; cherished great grandmother of Declan and Cambria; dear sister of Michael Maruffi; sister in law of Angelina Ferstermann, Andrew Friedel and Philip and Osla Friedel; beloved cousin of Catherine Maruffi. Gladys grew up in a house on Mace Avenue, where the flagpole for Eastern Technical High School is currently located. She attended Mount Carmel Elementary and St. Michael's Business School. After graduation, she worked for several lawyers and the C&P Telephone Company until she married the love of her life, Francis (Sonny), on June 6, 1959. They settled in Perry Hall and started their family. When her children came along, she became involved in their activities and started her service to her community through her volunteer activities for St. Joseph's Fullerton (School and Parish), Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and later, St. Rita's Supper Table, now Soup for the Soul. Gladys worked at all levels of these organizations to build them, their members and the community. Volunteering was her life's work. She felt blessed up to the very end to know, grow and serve others.
