Harry
Hook
Feb 24, 1940 — Jul 10, 2026
Harry F. Hook, U.S. Army Veteran, of Baltimore, Maryland, peacefully passed away while surrounded by family on Friday, July 10, 2026. He was 86 years old. He was born in Baltimore on February 24, 1940, to Helen (nee Staab) and Norman Hook. Harry was the beloved husband of Kathleen “Kathy” D. (nee Maskell) Hook for 65 years; loving father of Adrian Woods and her husband Francis and Eric Hook; proud Poppie of Caitlin Gritsko and her husband Dan and Katelyn Hankoff and her husband Sam; adoring great grandfather of Elijah, Zoe and Ezra; dear brother of the late Norman Hook and his surviving wife Sheila; cherished brother in law of Mary Margaret Ciampa and her husband Joe, Tom Maskell and his wife Maria, Ray Maskell and his wife Denise, Charlie Maskell and his wife Elsa, the late Capt. C. Michael Maskell (United States Navy) and his late wife Patricia, the late Charlotte Keegan and her late husband Brian, and the late Larry Maskell. Harry is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, other extended family members and dear friends.
At the age of 9, Harry found his true passion with drum and bugle corps, where he played the bugle for nearly 60 years. He began with the Shrine of the Little Flower drum corps in 1949, then went on to play with the Reilly Raiders and the Yankee Rebels Alumni corps. In addition to playing the bugle for the drum corps, he served on the board of the Yankee Rebels Alumni Association as Vice President and President. Additionally, Harry was recently inducted into the World Drum Corps Hall of Fame. Harry was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves, while also working for Henry Knott Construction. He then went on to work for the US Postal Service as a letter carrier for 40+ years. Harry also worked as a courier for Purolator.
Harry cherished time with his family and friends. He knew no strangers and truly embodied the saying “to know him was to love him.” While raising a family, Harry enjoyed time spent outdoors, taking trips to the beach, playing cards with neighbors and, later in life, cruises with his wife, family and friends. During Harry’s time at St. Elizabeth Hall, he reignited his passion for pinochle and poker with his new friends. He will truly be missed by all who knew him; he cherished all the friendships he made through the years.
A Memorial Mass will be held privately by the family at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please remember Harry with memorial contributions to Stella Maris, c/o Development Office, 2300 Dulaney Valley Road, Timonium, Maryland 21093 or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, Maryland 21741.
