Obituary

James Richard Reeder passed away on Monday, October 24, 022 at the age of 89.

Jim grew up as one of 6 children on a small tobacco farm near Nashville, Tennessee.  Working the fields and serving as an amateur photographer he earned his way into Vanderbilt University, majoring in Electrical Engineering.  While in school, the nearby Grand Ole Opry attracted him to become a part time sound engineer at WSM Radio.

Early in his career at Westinghouse he received a special patent award for designing the electrical system for the Boeing 707 aircraft.

To further his education, he entered Johns Hopkins University and in 1966 earned a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering.

Jim's special pleasure came from a parallel career as an adjunct professor in the Master of Computer Science Program at Loyola University.  Teaching and interacting with students (mostly employees from local industries) had always been a goal.

Retiring after a 41 year career with Westinghouse as an Advisory Engineer, he continued teaching until age 80.  Family and travel added to his happiness later in life.

Jim was the beloved husband of Martha Tuttle Reeder of 55 years; father of James Michael Reeder and his wife Angela Roberts Reeder, and George David Reeder and his wife Tania Hudson Reeder; grandfather of Evelyn and Thomas; brother of Jenny Reeder Hackney of Greenbrier, Tennessee.
