On May 7, 2026, James “Perry” Shipp, 86 of Reisterstown, Maryland, left us to be with his Lord. He was the cherished husband for 34 years to Mary Lea Shipp (nee Lilley), beloved son of the late Mayme Gertrude Shipp (nee Newell), beloved nephew of the late Raymond & Grace (Newell) Smith, loving cousin of the late John Smith and surviving cousins, Elizabeth (Newell) Munt and her children Diane & Edward Parkinson, loving son-in-law of the late Francis & Helen Lilley and loving brother-in-law of the late Milton E. Lilley, loving cousin of Ginger Murphy, Elizabeth N. Caldwell, Jean & Tom Campbell and loving nephew of the late Robert & Sally (Newell) Murphy, Nancy Newell, George & Rowena Newell and Oleta (Newell) & George Naylor.
Perry was born in Louisville, Kentucky on May 3, 1940. After graduating from Wakefield High School, Perry enlisted in the Air Force in 1963 where he served as an electrician while furthering his education attending Western Oklahoma State College. Perry was an excellent student, graduating both as an honor student from Control Data Institute and Cum Laude from Thomas Nelson Community College. He was Honorably Discharged in 1967 and received several medals.
Perry and Mary Lea were married on May 8, 1992 at the Ellicott City Court House. Perry was an independent consultant at JPS Consulting where he designed, programmed, installed and trained customers on the use of software and hardware and even worked with the New York school system to implement the use of a computer program for monitoring student attendance. He then began a career at The Social Security Administration where he was a computer programmer/analyst until he retired in 2012.
Perry was a member of many organizations and spent much of his time volunteering in his retired years. He will be missed dearly by everyone who knew him.
A Funeral Service will be held at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, 200 East Padonia Road, Timonium, MD 21093, on Friday, June 5, 2026 at 1PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing in Perrys’ name to Believe in Tomorrow Children's Foundation, The American Legion Post #116, Tunnel to Towers Foundation or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
