Obituary

Jean Patricia Kaskie, 92, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2025.

Born to the late Anthony and Regina (Holobowicz) Apollo, Jean was raised in Shamokin, PA, where she attended St. Stanislaus School and graduated from Coal Township High School. She began her career as a telephone switchboard operator for the Pennsylvania Telephone Co. and later worked as a payroll clerk at Franklin Frocks Textiles in Shamokin.

On May 14, 1955, Jean married the love of her life, Leonard F. Kaskie. Their 67 year marriage was one of deep devotion, ending only with Leonard's passing on January 29, 2023. Following their wedding, the couple moved to Baltimore, MD, where they lived for 40 years before settling in Sparks, MD. They also maintained a beloved home in Coal Township.

Jean is survived by her five daughters: Patricia (Carlo) Noto of Wilmington, NC; Regina (the late Michael) Greaver of Abita Springs, LA; Alicia (David) Villa of Phoenix, MD; Jacqueline (Timothy) Barnaba of Glen Arm, MD; and Paula (Hugo) Benalcazar of Stewartstown, PA. She was a proud grandmother to six grandsons (including the late Kyle Greaver), six granddaughters, and a cherished great-grandmother to three great-grandsons.

Jean will be remembered for her love of Polish traditions—especially her passion for cooking cherished family recipes like pierogi, Polish sausage, golumpki, and chruściki. She and Leonard spent many joyful years enjoying Polish music and dancing at the Polish Home Club in Baltimore, Maryland.

Above all, Jean was a devoted mother, dedicating herself fully to raising her daughters and nurturing their home with love, faith, and resilience. A devout Catholic, she found great comfort in attending Mass and praying to the Blessed Mother throughout her life.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Jean's memory on Friday, June 27th at 11:00 a.m. at Mother Cabrini Catholic Church, 214 N Shamokin St., Shamokin, PA 17872. Interment of ashes will follow at Saint Stanislaus Cemetery in Shamokin.
