Jeanne
Gilmore
d. Oct 30, 2024
On October 30, 2024, peacefully and surrounded by family, Jeanne Gilmore (nee: Smithcors) passed away at the age of 98 at her home in Timonium, MD. Born in Drifton, PA. and raised in Hazleton, PA., Jeanne settled and lived in Baltimore for over seventy years.
A loving and much beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, mother-in-law, grandmother-in-law, sister-in-law, aunt and friend, Jeanne's intelligence, compassion, humility, thoughtfulness and generosity were only eclipsed by her beauty and grace. In almost a century of life, Jeanne's accomplishments were many – a celebrated thespian at Hazelton High School, a graduate of the Lenox Hill (New York) School of Nursing, a supervising nurse of the polio unit at Children's Hospital in Baltimore, the first woman Trustee at Loyola Blakefield, Executive Assistant at the National Association of Real Estate Companies, a volunteer nurse at GBMC where she logged over 6,000 volunteer hours, an astute bridge player, and lifelong reader and learner. Jeanne was adventurous – bike riding across the country with her sister, serving as a nurse on a cruise ship to Argentina and for her 85th birthday riding in a Cobra race car at over 100 miles per hour around a racetrack. She was always active as an avid tennis player, golfing with her husband and friends, attending grandchildren's sporting events, and an enthusiastic and boisterous fan of the Ravens, Orioles and Capitals.
Jeanne's most cherished times were spent with her husband George of 59-years and raising their ten children at their home in Lutherville, enjoying summers in Ocean City, MD. and hosting hundreds of holiday, birthday and graduation celebrations and special gatherings for her family and friends. With genuine caring and respect for others, Jeanne saw and acknowledged the best in everyone she met – a hallmark by which she will long be loved and remembered.
Jeanne is survived by her children Timothy, Susan, Patricia, Thomas (spouse Francis), Peter (spouse Marie), Jeanne (spouse Guy), Mary Margret (spouse Wendy) and Paul (spouse Mary Jo), and daughter-in-law Jody Gilmore; twelve grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Margret Gilmore and Pepi Palmer (spouse Harry); many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Jeanne was predeceased by her loving husband, George; sons George Jr. and Michael; daughter-in-law Debbie Gilmore; granddaughter Megan; her mother Stella and sister Else; brothers-in-law William, Donald and Jack; and sisters-in-law Celia and Sally.
