Jeanne Eileen Pomykala passed away on February 6, 2022 at the age of 61.
Born on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 1960, in Kingsville, Texas, Jeanne was the second child of Dr. Ronald & Anne Pomykala (nee Lippert). The family returned to the Bethesda, Maryland area where Jeanne spent her early & teenage years at St. Bartholomew's School and Walt Whitman High School. She enjoyed numerous crafts and was a member of Senior Girl Scout Troop 506, where she earned Girl's Scouts highest award. The troop specialized in high adventure trips including canoeing, caving, sailing and climbing & rappelling at Carderock.
Jeanne then attended the University of Maryland at College Park and earned her BS in General Business in 1982. Here she met her future husband, Joseph E. Lucas, Jr. and a wonderful love developed from the start.
Her skills came rapidly. As a certified People Soft Functional Expert, Jeanne understood and implemented all phases of design, development, and implementation of software application for clients. This included the US Court System Accounting Office, Newspaper Support Services, Inc., ACS Government Services, Inc. and many others.
Jeanne and Luke were married on July 26, 1997 and started their family in Rockville with the birth of Ryan Marshall on December 30, 1999. This family was the highlight and love of Jeanne's life. They enjoyed many activities in the out of doors including trips to Bethany Beach and Berkeley Springs. She loved cooking and was a wonderful chef. Jeanne prepared many holiday dinners for her extended family, homemade dinners for her parents, and was known for her pumpkin bread gifted at the holidays. Later, she retired to Baltimore and bought a historic rowhome near John Hopkins University.
Jeanne is predeceased by her husband Luke (d.2007) and son Ryan (d.2014). She is survived by her parents, Ron & Anne Pomykala, siblings Mary, Joseph, Brian, Cristin and Dan (and wife Anndi), numerous nieces and nephews, and mother-in-law, Myrna Lucas.
The cremation took place at Peaceful Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Center. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial celebration at Gramercy Mansion, 1400 Greenspring Valley Road, Stevenson, MD on March 20, 2022 from one to four. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Foundation in the name of Jeanne E. Pomykala.
