Jeannette Leah
Miller
d. Nov 1, 2025
Jeannette Leah Miller, 84, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Jeannette was born on March 16, 1941 in Bismarck, North Dakota, the daughter of Albert and Marie Wolff. Following her father's passing soon after her birth, she was lovingly raised in part by her grandparents, George and Flossie Steckman. She was known affectionately as "Nett" to her sisters, LaVyrl and Arlene.
In 1965, Jeannette married Bruce Lawrence Miller, a partnership marked by deep affection, humor, and unwavering support that guided them through every chapter of life. Together they raised four children: Allen, Geoffrey, Kendall, and Karla.
A graduate of North Dakota State University, Jeannette worked as a Certified Dietitian for more than three decades, combining her professional expertise with her passion for helping others live healthier lives. She authored three cookbooks featuring approachable, nutritious recipes – one of which was translated into multiple languages – and she also wrote a regular food column for The Southern Illinoisan newspaper.
Beyond her career, Jeannette was a skilled and passionate stitcher, with a particular flair for embroidery. She was an active and compassionate member of every community she called home. She participated in her local church, P.E.O., scouting, and numerous charitable organizations. A lifelong lover of reading and classical music, she was also a proud feminist who supported women's causes and empowered those around her.
She is survived by her children Karla (Steve), Kendall (Cheryl), Geoffrey, and Allen (Olga); her grandchildren Galen, Micah, Zoe, Rose, and Emelia; her beloved niece Terri (Tim) and numerous other nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at a later date in Vermont and North Dakota. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to P.E.O Chapter K Maryland and The Michael J. Fox Foundation .
