Dr. John Clarke, 89, passed away on January 11, 2023, at Promedica Nursing home in Ruxton, MD. He was born April 6,1933, in New York City, the son of John Clarke and Marie (de Bourdeille) Clarke.

After graduating from High School, John served in the United States Air Force in Okinawa during the Korean War.  After returning, he worked at the Metropolitan Museum in New York and attended Columbia University. He later settled in Baltimore where he attained his PhD and was a professor at Loyola University, Johns Hopkins University and Morgan State University.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Henri and George, his sister, Marie-France, his first wife Kathleen and his second wife Jeanne.

Surviving are his 3 sons, John Thomas, George and Paul and his daughter Stephanie as well as three grandchildren, and his 2 Sister-In -laws Christine Clarke and Jill Roach.

John enjoyed biking, talking politics, appreciated Art and the French language.
