Jon “Chip” Ackers, of Towson, MD, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.

Born on June 12, 1944, in Baltimore, Maryland, Chip was the son of the late Mezrop and Elsie Ackers. He was raised in the Waverly and Govans neighborhoods of Baltimore and he attended Baltimore City High School and graduated from Dulaney High School in 1963. He was predeceased by his older brother, David, and by the love of his life and wife of 48 years, Barbara “Bobbi” Ackers, who passed away in 2019.

Following high school, Chip worked in his family’s business, Ackers Oriental Rugs on 25th Street in Baltimore—a premier establishment serving clients throughout Roland Park, Guilford, Homeland, and the surrounding areas. A proud veteran, Chip subsequently served four years in the United States Air Force, stationed at Da Nang Air Base during the Vietnam War. Upon completing his military service, he spent the majority of his career with the Florida Department of Citrus.

A man of strong faith, Chip was a longtime member of Trinity Assembly of God in Lutherville, Maryland. He was also an ardent Baltimore sports enthusiast, passionately following the Orioles, the Colts, and the Ravens, while assembling a major collection of sports memorabilia over his lifetime.

Known for his quick wit, larger-than-life sense of humor, and extraordinary gift for storytelling, Chip brought warmth and laughter to everyone around him. He was also known for his sense of style and was always “Best Dressed” at every occasion. Above all, his devotion to his family and friends was unmatched, and he was deeply loved by all who knew him. Rest in peace—we look forward to the day when we can all laugh together again.

Chip is survived by his loving extended family and many dear friends.

The family will receive friends at Peaceful Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Center, P.A., 2325 York Road, Timonium, MD 21093 on Thursday, August 27, 2026 from 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM where a Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held Friday, August 28, 2026 beginning at 11:00 AM.
