Joseph John Steigerwald passed away peacefully on April 17, 2025, at the age of 80.
Born and raised in Baltimore, Joe was the beloved son of the late George Aloysious Steigerwald and the late Mary Rita (Faro) Steigerwald. He attended Our Lady of Pompei School and graduated from Calvert Hall College High School. Joe went on to earn his undergraduate degree from Loyola University Maryland and received his law degree from the University of Baltimore.
Joe spent his adult life living in Towson, Maryland and dedicated his career to public service as an Assistant State's Attorney for 30 years, where he was admired for his fairness, dedication, and commitment to justice. Known for his genuinely kind heart, Joe was the type of person who would help anyone in need without hesitation. His compassion and quiet generosity touched countless lives.
A lifelong sports fan, Joe especially loved the Baltimore Ravens. He was a proud season ticket holder from the moment the team arrived in Baltimore and rarely missed a game. His love for sports extended to many arenas, but the Ravens held a special place in his heart.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Lou Burkhardt. He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Lisa Langston, Tom Bohager (Lorie), Mary Hametz, David Bohager (Shari), and Michelle Zuromski (Shane); 11 great-nieces and nephews; and 5 great-great-nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church, 200 Ware Avenue, Towson, MD. A graveside service will be held immediately following at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, 4430 Belair Rd., Baltimore, MD 21206.
