Obituary

Jung Ja Kim of Cincinnati, Ohio passed away on Tuesday July 26, 2022 at the age of 79.  Jung was born in Seoul, South Korea and as a child aspired to be an opera singer.  She performed traditional Korean Dances and played the gayageum and janggu.  She attended Hanyang University as a chemistry student, however, she met Soo Kim at the age of 20 and married him at age 23 and did not complete her degree.  After 4 months of marriage, while pregnant with her son Carlos, Jung, her husband Soo Kim and his 2 brothers and 2 cousins set out to South American and lived in Argentina for a few years.  They then moved to Los Angeles, California and eventually started their own business.  The family also lived in Birmingham, Alabama and Cincinnati, Ohio.  While in Cincinnati she was extremely involved at St. Andrew Catholic Church by leading weekly prayer groups and serving that community for approximately 40 years.  Jung was self-employed owning 2 stores including a clothing store and a wig and prosthetics business.  However, she still found time to be involved with the Charismatic Renewal and lead charismatic retreats for Koreans all over the world including Germany, Argentina, and South Korea.

Jung was the beloved wife of the late Soo Don Kim; loving mother of Carlos Kim and his wife Eunice Kang and Ann Cory and her husband Kevin; grandmother of Liam Kim, Olivia Kim, Peter Cory, Alexandra Cory, and Elizabeth Cory.  Also survived by 2 sisters and a brother along with many family members and wonderful faithful friends.

The family will receive friends at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 101 Church Lane, Cockeysville on Friday July 29, 2022 from 10:00 AM until 10:30 AM with eulogies beginning at 10:30 AM.  Msgr. Richard H. Hilgartner and Rev. Lawrence Chung will concelebrate a Funeral Mass beginning at 11:00 AM.  The interment will be private.
