Katherine
Diafokeris
d. Feb 2, 2026
Katherine Diafokeris (nee Giamaras), age 93, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, February 2, 2026. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Diafokeris and her sister Maria Platsis.
Katherine is survived by her loving daughters; Kriss Cocoros (her late husband, George J. Cocoros) and Tula Stamas (her husband, George S. Stamas). She was a devoted grandmother of five cherished grandchildren; Nicole, Steven, Maria, Elizabeth and George and a proud great grandmother of Niko and Zoe. Katherine was also the dear aunt of Lambi Platsis, Kostas Platsis, and the late Manuel Antonakas.
She was born on November 30, 1932 in Malona on the island of Rhodes, Greece. She and her daughters immigrated to America in 1959 to join her husband, George, who had come to the United States in 1954. After settling in Highlandtown and purchasing their first home, they became active members of the Saint Nicholas community. In 1973, they moved to Cockeysville, Maryland and soon after joined the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation, later becoming members of Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church.
Katherine had many talents and a very generous spirit. She loved sewing, gardening, crocheting, cooking and was always eager to lend a hand to those in need. She especially enjoyed helping prepare desserts for the Saint Demetrios Greek Festival and took great joy in making "prosforo" for church services.
She worked for many years at the T. I. Schwartz Sewing Factory. Over the years, she and her husband owned several restaurants where she worked alongside him with dedication and pride.
Katherine will always be remembered by her family and friends for her special sense of humor, her kindness and her warm spirit. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and forever brought a smile to her heart.
