Kathryn "Kate" Jean Funk (nee Elder), aged 82, of Ellicott City, passed away on January 21, 2026 at Gilchrist Hospice Center in Baltimore. Born on May 25, 1943, in Yonkers, New York, she was the daughter of Alexander L. Elder and Evelyn Emma Elder (nee Flower).
Kate graduated from the Stamford Hospital Nursing Class of 1964 in Stamford, Connecticut. She dedicated forty years to her profession as a registered nurse, contributing her expertise across a range of healthcare settings. Following her retirement, she served as an Ombudsman for Baltimore County, a role she found deeply rewarding.
In 1980, Kate married George Charles Funk. She was the mother of three daughters from a previous marriage. Kate was known for her quirky sense of humor and enjoyed playing both the piano and guitar, spending time with her family and her dog, Harry. More recently, she lived at Brightview Senior Living, where she valued the friends she made and the activities she was involved in.
She is survived by her three daughters, Leith Erickson (Bobby), Jocelyn Batlas (Ed), and Melissa Cross (Raymond); stepson, Chris Funk (Heather); and five grandsons; Luke, Sam, Nate, Henry and Charlie. Also surviving are nephews Dana Dostal (Patti) and Jeff Dostal (Deb) and their daughter Amanda.
A private service will be held at a later date.
