Kevin Gerard Bonner was born on November 20, 1964, in Philadelphia, PA and passed away at his home in Baltimore, MD, on January 21, 2025, after a 14 year battle with cancer.
Kevin studied electrical engineering at Drexel University, where he earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees, specializing in control theory and robotics. After co-founding a startup in autonomous systems, he led engineering and technical design as a vice president at General Dynamics Robotics Systems. Next, he joined General Dynamics Land Systems, where he served as Senior Director of Design and Development Engineering, Advanced Products and Technology, and Global Chief Technology Officer. An engineer by trade, he was a craftsman at heart—meticulous in restoring the family home and tending to his garden, a passion he carried with him even through his treatment for leukemia. Kevin loved spending time outdoors with the people in his life: fishing and camping with his brother Dave on Capers Island, backpacking with his daughter Scarlett and disc golfing with his son Griffin. Kevin and wife Janice shared a life long passion for athletic pursuits including triathlon, open water swimming, obstacle racing and mountain biking. Soft-spoken and stoic, Kevin was a leader who led by example. His genuine respect for others, steadfast integrity, and quiet strength left a lasting impact on those who knew him.
Kevin was laid to rest at Serenity Ridge in a private green burial on January 27th. He is survived by his wife Janice (Washofsky); his children, Griffin and Scarlett; his father Jack Bonner; his siblings, John Bonner, Sheryl Calhoun, David Fladd, Kelleigh Mulhern and beloved dog Gussie.
A celebration of Kevin's life will be held on Friday April 4th, 4-6PM at Cylburn Arboretum in Baltimore, Maryland, one of his & Janice's favorite places. The family is grateful for the tremendous outpouring of love and support during this time. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Cylburn Arboretum Friends https://cylburn.org/ in honor of Kevin.
