Kirby William
Schmidt
d. Mar 15, 2023
Kirby William Schmidt was born in New Orleans, and had a deep love for his hometown. Divorced for many years, he moved to Baltimore, and for most of those years worked as a furniture refinisher at Baltimore Finishing Works. He took pride in his work, and admired the skills of the owner and his co-workers.
Although Kirby did not have a college education, he was a voracious reader, and devoured books on paleontology, history, geography, and military history. He had a mastery of Major League Baseball facts and stats, and became an Orioles fan during his time in Baltimore. He was all too eager to bend your ear on any of these subjects! His most recent passion was anything and everything about West Virginia, following a vacation there.
Kirby enjoyed his nieces and nephews and their families, he took pride in their achievements, and loved exploring the things they were doing and learning. He loved family gatherings, and was a loud and energetic participant in family conversations.
Kirby suffered a number of health issues in his later years, and had to take early retirement because of them. He died in his home in March 2023, at the age of 64.
He is survived by his brother John Schmidt, his daughter Katherine Schmidt, and numerous nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by friends and family.
A Memorial Service for Kirby will be held Saturday, April 1, 10:00am at Chestnut Grove Presbyterian Church, 3701 Sweet Air Rd. Phoenix, MD 21131.
