L. Richard
Wisner, Sr.
d. Jul 9, 2026
Leonard Richard Wisner, Sr. (Richard), 79, of Baltimore, Maryland, passed away peacefully on July 9th, 2026.
Born on December 13th, 1946, in Baltimore, Maryland, Richard was the beloved son of George W. Wisner and Phyllis Lorraine Wisner (née Hurtt). Baltimore was always home, and throughout his life he embodied the values of loyalty, hard work, and devotion to family.
Richard was a devoted husband and father and is survived by his wife and two children. He shared 51 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved and devoted wife, Blanca Cecilia Wisner (née Metral), building a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering commitment. He was the proud father of his daughter, his first child, Blanca Alexandra Wisner, lovingly known as "Xandra” or "Alix", and his son, Leonard Richard Wisner, Jr., affectionately known as "Ricky" or "Rico." His family was the center of his world, and nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with them.
Richard proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, including a tour of duty in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. He carried the pride and discipline of being a Marine throughout his life, earning the respect of everyone who knew him. He attained the rank of Sergeant while serving in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged after his faithful service in Vietnam.
Following his military service, Richard dedicated 35 years of his career to Greyhound as a professional bus driver, closing out his career as an instructor. He took great pride in his work and enjoyed the people he met along the way. One of his favorite stories – and one he loved to tell – was about the time he had the opportunity to drive Elvis Presley's tour bus, combining his profession with his lifelong appreciation for the King of Rock and Roll and his music.
Those who knew Richard remember him as a kind and gentle soul with a great sense of humor. He was the undisputed king of dad jokes and joking around, always ready with a smile, a clever quip, or a story that would leave everyone laughing. Whenever someone asked how he was doing, his signature reply was, "Oh, I'm just tryin' to maintain" – a phrase that reflected his resilience, humility, and ability to meet life's challenges with grace and humor.
Richard’s warmth, compassion, and quiet strength touched countless lives. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, fellow Marines, former coworkers, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
His favorite hobbies and pastimes were eating and sleeping (according to his high school yearbook), performing Elvis and Frank Sinatra songs at karaoke (and he was GOOD), crossword puzzles, BBQs and crab feasts with family and friends, and watching old, we’re talking black and white old, movies.
The love he gave, the laughter he shared, and the memories he created will remain in the hearts of those who will love him forever.
May he rest in eternal peace.
Semper Fidelis. Fair winds and following seas, Richard.
