Lizzie Lunette
Broadnax
May 14, 1939 — Feb 6, 2022
Peacefully on February 6, 2022, Lizzie Lunette Broadnax was called by the Lord to join her parents Clayton & Pearl Leak, Sr.; brothers James, Dewey, Clayton Jr., and Freddie; sisters Edna, Ruth, and Marie.
Lizzie was born on May 14, 1939, in Wadesboro, North Carolina. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized at the West Rocky Ford Baptist Church. Lizzie moved to New York in the 1950s, where she met her husband, Alfred Broadnax Jr., and the two were married on December 16, 1959. In 1968, she found permanent work as a Physical Therapy Technician at Elmhurst Hospital in Queens where in 1985 she was recognized for her selfless sacrifice in helping others. Lizzie's name is recorded on the permanent Register of Contributors at the museum of the Statue of Liberty where she is recognized for being a "Torchbearer." Lizzie worked for twenty-six years (while raising her five children) and retired on June 11, 1994. Lizzie was a member of the Greater Trinity Baptist Church when she resided, with her family, in Long Island City where she was a Deaconess and Choir member. Lizzie then joined Mt. Horeb Baptist Church when her family moved to Corona. She taught Sunday school, was honored for her outstanding work in the Afterschool program and was active in the church's soup kitchen and food pantry. Lizzie also loved to shop and was considered a ("Top Shelf") fashionista by many. She was also known for her big smile, love of good Soul Food cooking, and gardening. In 2005, Lizzie relocated to Timonium, Maryland with her husband where she would become a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church until she became ill. She was the best mother to her children and grandchildren, beloved aunt, and supportive sister.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories with her loving and devoted husband Alfred Broadnax Jr.; children Cassandra Glivens, Jeffrey Broadnax, Harvey (Alvina) Broadnax, Mary Acosta, and Valerie (Craig) Broadnax; nineteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, sisters Georgianna Wilson, Nancy Ledbetter, Mary Feggins, Betty (Bob) Walters, Joleatha Rorie, and loving in-laws and their families.
The family will receive friends at Peaceful Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Center, P.A., 2325 York Road, Timonium, Maryland 21093 on Monday, February 14 from 10-11 AM. A Funeral Service will begin at 11 AM until 12:40 PM. Interment will follow at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens at 1:15 PM.
