Obituary

Margaret Cushing-Knox, of White Marsh, Maryland, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2023, at the age of 65, at Gilchrist Center Hospice in Towson.

Born in Baltimore to Mary Margaret (Peggy) Letke and Richard Thomas (Dickie) Cushing, widow to her late husband, Daniel Knox, a loving mother to Dillan Robert and Keegan Cushing Knox; sister to Mary Elizabeth Cushing and her husband, Dr. Daniel A. Duffy, Clare Cushing Dooley and her husband Bill Dooley and Brigid Ann Cushing. She was a loving Aunt to Megan Dooley Phillips, her husband Andrew Phillips, Billy Dooley his girlfriend Josie Bachman, Maeve Duffy and her fiance Franklyn Darnis and Brian Duffy, and a great Aunt to Molly Clare Phillips. She was surrounded by a loving family and numerous cousins as well as a community of friends accumulated over her life.

A graduate of St. Patrick's Grade School, Maryvale Preparatory High School, Towson University, Maggie also obtained Master of Divinity from St. Mary's Seminary of Roland Park, Maryland. Maggie was the ultimate host, caretaker, and homemaker. An extreme professional sports enthusiast (Football, Tennis, Baseball, Golf, Soccer), Maggie was an avid Dallas Cowboys, Rafael Nadal, Baltimore Orioles, Phil Mickelson, and Manchester City fan. On the collegiate side, she cheered for the Texas Longhorns where her husband Daniel went to college. Raised in Baltimore, Maggie and her sisters were members of the Ancient Order of Hibernian's and performed Irish Step dancing for ten years at Hospitals and Nursing Homes and marched in the Baltimore Saint Patrick Day Parade. Maggie worked as a volunteer with St. Vincent de Paul helping the homeless and poor of the city. Maggie was part of choir and music ministry at St. Patrick's as well as St. Vincent de Paul. In addition, Maggie performed a liturgical dance at Father Canterna's ordination in 1975.

Maggie had a career in the hospitality industry and worked for Hyatt hotels in Baltimore, Washington, DC, and Charlotte, NC. Maggie lived and worked with various hotels in Wisconsin, Florida, and Arizona. Maggie, Daniel, and her sons resided in Weirton, West Virginia for ten years while working at Mountaineer Resort and were members of St. Paul's Catholic Church. Weirton provided the Knox family with a loving community of friends and fellowship. Former hospitality colleagues from other hotels joined Maggie and Daniel to work and live in West Virginia. Maggie was a pescetarian and loved making seafood dishes for her family and friends including Peggy's crabcake and crab soup recipes.

She enjoyed reading, getting massages, playing card games like pinnacle and pitch, and going to the beach. Maggie dedicated her life to caregiving for her family, especially over the last 10+ years to husband Daniel for five years, her father Dickie, Aunt Murphy (Loretta Letke) and her sister Brigid for the last eight and half years. Maggie lived a life of faith by praying the rosary and attending daily mass; she belonged and was committed to prayer communities and a bible study group. As a Eucharistic minister Maggie served others who could not attend mass. Maggie was a devoted Catholic and loved the graces promised by the Catholic Church.

Maggie's family would like to thank all the family and friends who visited and supported Maggie at the Union Memorial hospital as well as Gilchrist hospice care during her three-week illness. Maggie enjoyed being with "her people" and having various friends and family meet each other and share in Maggie's' fellowship at the end of her life. Maggie and her family want to thank the Gilchrist medical team and staff for their loving care, support, and prayers. We would also like to thank the numerous family and friends who visited Maggie from November 7th to 23rd and enjoyed discussions with Maggie about God and Sports!
