Mary Lou Saffell, known for her love of life and radiant presence, passed away peacefully at home on September 8, 2024, surrounded by her three daughters. She was 89 years old.

Born on Christmas Day in 1934,to James and Tecla Scarborough, Mary Lou lived a life filled with creativity, independence, and spiritual growth. Her stunning looks, and vibrant personality left a lasting impression on all who met her. She was the wife of the late Edward Saffell, a renowned Baltimore artist, who preceded her in death

Mary Lou had a long career with C&P Telephone before retiring. Throughout her life, she pursued various interests, showcasing her creative spirit. She had a love for gardening and found great joy and peace creating beautiful colorful gardens

A beautiful soul inside and out, Mary Lou was a positive role model for many. Her independent spirit and spiritual nature guided her through life's challenges, inspiring those around her to live authentically and joyfully.

She is survived by her three beloved daughters Karen Cruz, Cynthia Cruz, and Angela Cruz, whom she shared with her first husband the late Thomas W. Cruz, and step sons Jacques Saffell and the late Greg Saffell. Mary Lou also leaves behind her granddaughter, Rebecca Derwin, nee Hanifen, and her husband Kevin. She was a loving great-grandmother to Jamie, Tommy, and Alice.

Mary Lou's beauty radiated from within, touching the lives of all who knew her. Her legacy of warmth, love, and creativity, will continue to inspire her family and friends.

We take comfort in the fact that her suffering is over and her journey in this life is complete.
