Obituary

Natalie Yvette Miller was born May 9, 1961 in Washington, DC.  She passed away peacefully on Friday, September 23, 2022 surrounded by loved ones.

Educated in DC Public Schools, attending Langdon Elementary, Taft Junior High and McKinley High and received her GED from Penn Center.

Every family has someone who connects all the branches of the family tree.   Natalie was that person for her family.   No matter from what branch you stemmed, her branch connected to yours.  She knew everyone's mother, father, sister, son, cousin, brother, aunt, uncle and bonus family members.  Blood lines didn't define her family.  Once your branch connected to hers, you were family forever.  And, Natalie truly loved her family.  Some family Natalie chose for herself like longtime bestie Karen Williams and BFF Laverne West. The children all loved Natalie and she SPOILED them rotten!  If Mommy/Daddy said no, Natalie would say "give it to them, give them what they want". Hers was their hangout house. Even when she yelled at them, which she did a lot, they kept coming back.  They knew her bark was worse than her bite.

Natalie was a hard worker.  She gave her all in her work and co-workers often became friends and extended family.  During her career, she worked at H&R Block for several tax seasons greeting customers.  She was Office Manager at Orkin Pest Control and Nutech.  After Hurricane Katrina, she worked as a Customer Service Representative at FEMA.  She loved getting the needed resources to those in need.  She later began a career in accounting and worked at Howard University, NASDAQ and Doctor's Hospital (now Luminus Health).

Natalie is survived by her daughter, Latasha Wrenn; grandchildren, Samuel Wrenn, Skei Wrenn, Tanae McCoy; three sisters, Vanessa (Tiya) Miller, Constance Coleman and Myra Lewis, and a host of other cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents James Edward Miller and Octavia Estelle Jackson Miller, brother Michael Irving Millerbey and son, James Edward Miller II.

Family, friends and others whose lives Natalie touched are invited to celebrate her life Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at Not About Me Ministries, 3106 Branch Avenue, Temple Hills, MD.  Visitation begins at 10am, immediately followed by the homegoing service at 11am.

Those who are unable to attend in person on October 5, 2022 can stream the service on the Not About Me Ministries Facebook and YouTube pages at 11am using the links below:

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Natalie's name to Endometrial Cancer Action Network for African American Women ( ECANAwomen.org ).  This organization provides social and emotional support to Black women diagnosed with endometrial cancer.  Donations go to running the survivor sanctuary each week and collaborating with researchers across the United States to make sure Black women endometrial cancer survivors are part of the team designing research studies on endometrial cancer.
