Palma Jane
Sutphen
Dec 30, 1929 — May 29, 2021
Palma Jane Sutphen, 91, of Long Green, Md, passed away on May 29, 2021 at her home.
Palma, born on December 30, 1929 to Gene and Ursula Clute in Chicago Il. Palma was an excellent business student. She was excellent at taking shorthand which helped in her long time job as a secretary at Stella Maris.
She married her husband Thomas A. Sutphen, Jr. in 1950. They divorced in 1985. Palma was passionately dedicated to her five children Daniel, Debra, David , Dana, and Daphne. She had 16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She loved playing, visiting, and celebrating with her large family. She especially loved the huge holiday celebrations at her homestead that was informally dubbed "Fertile Acres. " She was an avid exerciser which included swimming and running on her "Gazelle". She also was an accomplished bird watcher. She documented the many species that she attracted and housed on her property. She loved the Baltimore Orioles, Ravens, and Colts prior to them leaving. She was a 36 year breast cancer survivor. She unfortunately never recognized her lifelong ambition of winning the Publisher's Clearinghouse grand prize. She will be remembered for her smile, laugh, red cars, down vests, nightly Seagrams, endless Christmas celebrations, glasses on the end of her nose, and dedication to her family. She was a very religious Catholic. She converted to Catholicism over 35 years ago after her experiences at Stella Maris.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Palma's name to Stella Maris Home Hospice. Services will be at 9:30 am on June 9, at St John's Evangelist Catholic Church, Hydes, Md.
