Obituary

Pamela Brigham Spencer, 71, of Weymouth Farm, Phoenix, Maryland passed peacefully at Johns Hopkins Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center on Saturday, January 20, 2018. Born Pamela Brigham Skalak in New York, New York, she is survived by her husband Michael Henry Spencer and her sons, Andrew and Peter, as well as her brothers, Robert and Richard.

Pam was a long-time Master Gardener and was the guiding force behind the reestablishment of the University of Maryland Master Gardener Program in Baltimore County. She was also a Certified Public Accountant and longest serving Treasurer of the University of Maryland Baltimore County Extension Advisory Council. Pam was passionate about the role that agriculture plays in our daily lives and the lives of our youth. She was instrumental in the rejuvenation of the Hereford Junior Farm Fair and its move to the Baltimore County Ag Center. She served as its Treasurer for 10 years. An accomplished and passionate gardener, she was an active member and leader of the Gunpowder Garden Club.

Despite ten relocations around the globe Pam and Mike were married for thirty-nine years. She was a devoted wife and mother who loved the earth and its creatures, especially the twenty-plus Nubian goats, three Alpacas, four dogs, two cats, and numerous beehives that she and Michael cared for at Weymouth Farm.

Pam was well known as a gentle, empathetic, and generous friend. She lived a selfless life, ever seeking opportunities to give to others, even while quietly suffering from the effects of cancer. Throughout treatment, Pam remained optimistic but practical—trusting in God and her physicians to the very end. She fought a challenging, twenty-month battle with lymphoma cancer and related, rare complications. Her final hours were spent surrounded by close family and friends who bid this incredibly brave woman farewell.

The family will hold a memorial and celebration service at her home, Weymouth Farm, on April 7, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in recognition of Pam's life and love of gardening. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fisher House Foundation, best known for a network of comfort homes where military and veterans' families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatment.
