Obituary

Patricia “Pat” Betty Sobkowicz

January 8, 1938 – May 1, 2026

Passed away peacefully on May 1, 2026 at age 88. Born January 8, 1938 in Gary Indiana, Pat was the first of two children of Stephen and Mary Ban. Growing up Pat excelled at school and school activities. After graduating high school she met the love of her life, Paul Sobkowicz whom she would marry not too long after. Pat and Paul moved to Pittsburgh, PA in 1968 to put down roots and build an amazing life for their family of five settling in Franklin Park

A dedicated educator and community member, Pat spent many years serving the North Allegheny School District in Pittsburgh, PA. She often spoke of her time there with great fondness, cherishing the daily interactions and lasting bonds she formed with her students and sons who overlapped her time at the school.

After moving to Maryland, to be closer to family, she became a vibrant part of the Broadmead community in Cockeysville, MD, where she deeply valued the friendships of her fellow residents and the dedicated staff. Pat had many talents she excelled at but was always humble about including; being a talented artist, seamstress and typist. Pat was also a life-long Steelers fan.

Pat’s greatest joy was the life she built with her beloved husband, Paul. Together, they created a home filled with warmth and love. An avid traveler, Pat’s adventurous spirit was well documented in the numerous, meticulously crafted scrapbooks she kept, each page a testament to a lifetime of exploration. When not traveling, she found peace being outdoors and simply enjoying the beauty of her surroundings.

Above all, Pat was a devoted mother and grandmother. She is survived by her three sons, Mike, Tom, and Scott, and their families. Her four grandchildren were truly the light of her life, and she took immense pride in every one of their milestones. She is also survived by her brother Steve Ban and his family. She will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
