Obituary

Paul Monks entered the world at home on January 27, 1949, in Glen Arm, Maryland—the last of five boys, all over ten pounds. His poor mom indeed. With a father who worked as an itinerant farm hand, Paul grew up milking cows and tackling chores that shaped him into the strong, steady man he became.

Paul enjoyed good health for nearly all of his 86½ years. Though he hoped for more time than he was given, he outlived all of his brothers and carried their memories with him. Paul was loved deeply by his family, friends, and the nurses and hospice team who cared for him, and he loved them just as deeply in return.

He defied the odds more than once, giving us precious extra years with him. We were lucky to have him, and we will carry his strength with us always.

Paul was the beloved husband of the late Marjorie Monks, and later on the beloved companion of the late Marie Nickel.

Paul is survived by his daughters, Renee Martinez and her husband Michael, Lauren Rodriguez and her husband Rolando, his grandchildren William and Paul Herr, Ana and Isabel Rodriguez, and great grandchildren, Gavin, Hunter, Parker and Peyton Herr. He was predeceased by his daughter Stephanie Wheeler, and granddaughter Holly Taylor, whom he loved dearly and now joins in peace.

Services and interment are private. In lieu of flowers, please remember Paul with memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.
