Paul F. Obrecht, Jr. passed away from Alzheimer's related complications on January 26, 2024. He was surrounded by his beloved wife Mary, family, and the wonderful team of Gilchrist Hospice Care.
Born May 17, 1949 to Marilyn and P. Fred Obrecht, Sr., Paul was the eldest of five children. Paul graduated from St. James School, Hagerstown, Maryland in 1968 and immediately began his lifelong career in construction and commercial development by renovating historic homes on Mount Royal Avenue. Within just a few years, and following in his father's footsteps, Paul and his brothers George and Tommy founded Obrecht Properties and developed numerous office, retail and industrial projects throughout the region. Paul served on numerous Boards including St. James School, Sun Trust Bank and Baltimore Country Club.
Paul was an avid golfer and outdoorsman and spent his time in, Baltimore, Key Largo, Florida and Elliots Island, Maryland. Paul was known to be a very competitive golfer with a keen wit who was able to bring people of all ages together for a good time.
Paul is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Obrecht (nee Rose), sons Paul F. Obrecht, III (Meg) of Stevenson, Maryland and Dudley (Lisa) Obrecht of Fort Loudon, Pennsylvania, grandsons Paul F. Obrecht, IV and Lewis Obrecht, sister Susan Riehl, brothers George Obrecht, Tom Obrecht, and Fred Obrecht, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Paul's life will be held Friday, February 2, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Owings Mills, Maryland.
