Peter Block Liveright of Lutherville, Maryland passed away April 23, 2023.  He was born October 12, 1921 and raised in New York City. He was the only child of Blanche Block Liveright and Gerson Kaufman Liveright. Peter and his mother summered in the New Jersey farmlands where he developed his "Cowboy Pete" persona.

He attended Goddard College in Vermont, the University of Wisconsin, and received his master's degree in Labor and Industrial Relations from the University of Illinois. Dad missed his Illinois graduation because he was climbing Mt. Mansfield in Vermont. He redeemed himself by giving the 2014 commencement speech for the University of Illinois Department of Employment Relations at the age of 93.

Peter had a diversified career path including the US Department of Labor, human resources in private industry, hospital administration and lastly in retirement, 15 years for the Unitarian church as a compensation consultant.

Peter met Barbara Anne Bauman while she was attending Johns Hopkins University on a hiking excursion with the Mountain Club of Maryland.  They were married in 1952 at the All Souls Unitarian Church in Washington, DC.

Peter is survived by his son Todd (Debi) of Seneca, SC, daughter Susan (Steve) of Cheyenne, WY, and Jennifer (Rob) of Stanardsville, VA. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great child.

Those who knew Peter will remember him by his love of jazz, corgis, and travel adventures including vacations on horseback. He loved happy hour with a Manhattan, healthy meals ending with chocolate, and walks with a corgi in Orchard Hills.

Arrangements will be made for a private family celebration of life.
