Richard "Dick" Elmer Mumma passed away peacefully on Friday, July 10, 2026 surrounded by his family after complications from a fall. He was born in July 1932 in Fork, Maryland to the late Elmer and Virginia Mumma.
Dick attended Poly High School in Baltimore City and Johns Hopkins University where he studied mechanical engineering. In 1954 he entered the Air Force but ended up receiving an honorable medical discharge due to a heart murmur.
Dick married the love of his life Virginia Ruth Crawford in 1955.
He went on to enjoy a rewarding career in mechanical engineering, primarily at Koppers in Glen Arm.
Dick and Ruth lived in Parkville, Maryland in the same house from 1956 to 2018. Then they moved to Oakcrest Senior Living Community where Dick lived for the past 8 years. His beloved wife, Ruth passed in 2020.
Dick is survived by his children, Cindy Kleeberger (spouse, Steve Kleeberger), Steve Mumma (spouse, Maggie Mumma), and Scott Mumma (spouse, Jenn Mumma) and his grandchildren, Alexandra Mumma, Kendall Mumma, Cameron Kleeberger, Kyle Kleeberger, and Calvin Mumma.
Dick was a remarkable person, known for being social, humorous, and incredibly caring, His kindness, compassion, and laughter will continue to live on through all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed and remembered forever.
The family will receive friends at a gathering in remembrance of Dick at Peaceful Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Center, P.A., 2325 York Road, Timonium, Maryland 21093 on Friday, July 17 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm with a Funeral Service officiated by Pastor Ben Hyrne to begin at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at Fork United Methodist Church Cemetery.
In keeping with Dick’s lifelong spirit of generosity, memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made in his memory to one of the organizations he faithfully supported: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Boys Town National Research Hospital, Disabled American Veterans, or The American Legion.
