Richard Lea
Shaw
d. Jan 5, 2026
A native of Baltimore, a respected architect, and an active Scout for 70 years, Richard Lea Shaw died January 5, 2025. He is survived by his spouse, Corinne Shaw, his brother, James Shaw and his wife, Grace.
Rick was born on September 20, 1946, to Arthur and Helen Shaw in Baltimore, Maryland. His family moved to Lutherville in 1961, and he lived there for the rest of his life. He discovered Boy Scouts at the age of 9 and was actively engaged in either troop or administrative Scouting roles until his death. He achieved a Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1972 from Auburn University. (War Eagle!) Rick then worked for Whitman Requardt and Associates for 50 years designing large municipal and military structures, everything from waste water treatment plants to Navy dry docks to Army training facilities. He and Cork married in 1993 and enjoyed many trips together visiting family and sightseeing in both the United States and Europe. His hobbies included wood and leather work as well as the meticulous construction of a miniature railroad and its path through a particular stretch of the Southwest. In recent months, Rick was most proud of completing a book about his life in Scouting, Smoke in My Eyes.
